Artist's Description

My grandmom broke her hip a couple of years ago. Because of that, she needed people to help her out quite a bit and I was able to spend a lot more time with her than I had been. She slept a lot of the time and one day I decided to take photographs around the house. The house that had meant so much to me as a kid. A house where I felt fully supported and loved and welcomed. One of the photos was of a poinsettia left over from Christmas. When I was little she used to keep poinsettias in her living room. Now there was only one and it was in the den, beside the wood stove. The living room had long been closed off to become something like a storage room. I took a photograph of the poinsettia and began playing with it, thinking back to all my childhood memories of her house--among the absolute best from my childhood. I combined it with a photo of myself and continued to play until I felt it expressed to some degree my feeling about the past with her and her home. I didn't have the words yet-...
